Ray Shorrocks will remain as Chairman of the Company.The appointment comes with Republic’s proposed acquisition of African Stellar Mozambique Limitada (“ASMoz”), which holds the rights to three gold mining tenements in Manica Province, Mozambique. The acquisition has been subject to ASX regulatory approval under Chapter 11 of the Listing Rules which was formally granted yesterday. The other key condition precedent of the acquisition is the completion of the transfer of licences to ASMoz, which is progressing as expected.Says Shorrocks: “Mark is an Australian who has spent over 20 years working throughout Africa, in the exploration and mining industry, which makes him an ideal candidate to deliver on the company’s new Africa-focused strategy. His wealth of experience on the continent includes a solid understanding of operational management, technical planning, production, geological modeling and mineral exploration. From his many years in the African mining industry Mark recognised the opportunity to develop a new model in mining collaboration that would leverage the dramatic growth of small -scale mining operations and provide healthy returns for all stakeholders. As a result of default on finance payments, Investec took ownership of CAG Ghana in January 2009. Mark was appointed as the Investec Representative on-site at the Bibiani Gold Mine in Ghana. This role involved taking over operational control of the mine, placing the operation onto a care and maintenance programme, taking charge of all finances and immediately reducing costs and the labour force where possible. Mark managed the independent technical report and assisted with the supervision of the financial audit. Mark also compiled an information memorandum for prospective bidders and managed the on-site due diligence process. In preparation for new ownership, Mark guided mine management through a zero based budgeting process together with the introduction of performance based KPI’s. The sale process was successfully concluded during June 2010.

Mark was a founding member of the executive team that took CAG to an operating concern in March 2006 and was responsible for all new business and business development. He managed all aspects of the acquisition of the Bibiani Gold Mine in Ghana from AngloGoldAshanti as well as the acquisition of the Falcon and Olympus Gold Mines in Zimbabwe in 2007. In addition to the new business and business development responsibilities in Central African Gold, Mark also manages the commercial portfolio for the business. Mark was the Chairman of the Operations Committee and was an integral part of the EXCO team that took Central African Gold plc from a market capitalisation of US $6m to over US$100m in the space of 12 months.

Mark was a key member Metallon Gold's executive committee in the capacity of Group Manager - New Business. Metallon Gold owned five operating underground gold mines in Zimbabwe and one underground gold mine in South Africa. In 2005, Metallon Gold produced just under 200,000oz Au. During Mark’s tenure at Metallon Gold, he was highly involved in the process of preparing the company and its operating assets for an IPO. Early in 2006, the management of Metallon Gold was decentralised to its operations in Zimbabwe and it was at this time the Head Office team took up the reigns of the listed entity Central African Gold Plc to transform it into an operating gold producer and explorer.
