In his role as Senior Regulatory Specialist, Mark supports communities to navigate through environmental impact assessment associated with natural resource development, energy, and infrastructure projects. Applying his skillset that bridges a strong technical and regulatory understanding, Mark is focused on ensuring that communities are equipped with a complete understanding of a project’s impacts to allow for free and prior informed decision-making.Mark is a graduate of the Environmental Science program at the University of Guelph, where he majored in ecology. He then completed a masters in Biology at the University of Waterloo, where he worked on understanding ecological response to human disturbance in lakes of the Muskoka River watershed, in central Ontario. Mark is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP), a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), by the Ontario Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists, and is a member of the Ontario Association for Impact Assessment (OAIA).Mark holds a core belief that the balance of decision-making power regarding the development of lands and waters should be held at the community level. This ethic guides his work to ensure that communities have a clear voice and are empowered as decision-makers. Over the course of his career, Mark has worked with several public sector government and non-governmental organizations but ultimately he is driven by the relationships he has forged working with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Canada. He works to ensure that developments reflect long-held community values, and will benefit future generations.Growing up on Georgian Bay, Mark has always been passionate about the outdoors, something which he incorporates in both his professional and personal life.
