In Early 2011, Tabcorp demerged; I was insourced from HP to work for Echo Entertainment (The Casino, Entertainment + Hotel arm of Tabcorp). During my time in the role the number of Linux servers has grown to over 350, spread over several data centers with a good mix of Physical/Virtual/Cloud.Technologies I have implemented:• Red Hat Satellite – Automating large scale deployment builds and errata management and easy patching of environment, including a proxy server for a remote site. Provides patching currency visibility.• Puppet Enterprise configuration management / Automation – Puppet is used to create users and centralise the administration config files such as sudoers, ntp.conf and password policies. It is also central to the AWS setup for deploying and configuring applications, allowing zero touch servers, eliminating human error. Created re-usable code to be used across different environments with separate hiera data for each environment.• AWS/Cloud building zero touch deployments using puppet/user data. ELB Auto Scaling. Building environments for projects, assessing suitability and implementing cloud technologies at Echo.• Web Stack (LAMP) – built web site platform for the casinos external sites. Taken on to complete several pieces of project work, and to help the project come in on time. Main parts of the work included completing the build of a Red Hat FTP server and managing the switch over from the old server. Responsible for setting up a test/training lab for Magdalene. The lab serves 2 purposes, firstly to train employees on HPUX and the applications they will be supporting and secondly for the loading of customer data for fault finding and database upgrades.• Based on hp9000 hardware J,K,L,N class and newer rpXXXX• HPUX 11.00, and 11i• LVM• MC/Service Guard• Ignite UXThe lab is based around a central Ignite server which allows rapid reconfiguration of the boxes as different customer faults arise. It also means the engineers can try out different fixes without worrying about ‘breaking’ a box. Responsible for providing full documentation of the lab setup and to provide training to the Magdalene engineers.Also covering the on call rota until the Magdalene engineers are more confident, this involves being available for 24hour call out to provide remote support.

I am part of the deployment team, which provides Solaris and HPUX servers for use in the 21CN testing environments. We have over 100 machines which are constantly being re-built/re-deployed for different purposes. Application support for Marconi's network management systems, EMOS, MV36, MV38. The systems run on HPUX operating systems, and a large part of the role was as a unix administrator.

We created software solutions to help the shop floor staff with their tasks. Used HPUX and SCO unix, Ingres Database software, EMOS, MV36, MV38. Also played with Visual Basic, C, Microsoft Access.
