I had never worked in the kitchen, so it provided a new set of challenges.I toasted bread, buttered toast, assembled sandwiches, cracked eggs, retrieved items for the other cooks, and assisted with food preparation.My biggest takeaway from that position was the importance of composure. A busy kitchen is not the most enjoyable place to be, but it's much worse when people lose their minds. I learned to stay calm and just keep chipping away at the orders. There was always an end somewhere.

The one-to-one communication with new people was something I didn't have much of previously.

Every Saturday & Sunday, I woke up at 6 AM and went to work with my mom and grandma.Before we opened, I prepared the dining room for customers. I made coffee filters, filled water pitchers, and pulled necessary items from the freezer.Throughout the day, I cleared dishes, sanitized tables, applied place settings, poured drinks, and ran food from the kitchen.After we closed, I potted potatoes, stocked the restrooms, and mopped the floor.Working on both Saturday and Sunday after going to school all week is a very maturing experience.
