Seasoned and accredited aviation executive at board and C-suite level, with hands-on experience through three significant downturns even before the COVID-19 pandemic. Calm under pressure, proven in adversity. Established track record of success in aircraft ordering, trading, leasing, financing and, when times are tough, restructuring - often from a position of perceived weakness. Self-starting, solutions-driven and results-orientated. At ease interfacing at any level with airlines, OEMs, lessors, financial institutions, MROs, insurance companies, professional bodies and governmental authorities.Particularly interested in the development of aviation in Africa & the Indian Ocean as a means to a critically important end: socio-economic and political progress, creating wealth and security in equal measure.Specialities: big-ticket transaction execution; strategic direction; corporate and financial reorganisation; workouts and trouble-shooting; project management (buying, selling, leasing / putting plans into action); dispute settlement; board memberships. Beyond day-to-day routine aircraft and engine transactions, here follows - in no particular order - a sampling of my activities.

Alternate Board MemberNovel Leasing Limited Mar 1996 - Nov 1997Novel Leasing Limited (partly mnemonic for 'new order vehicle') arose from the restructuring of GPA's new order book with Boeing. While billions of dollars' worth of orders were cancelled on the one hand, Novel Leasing (a unique JV between GPA and Boeing) ordered 12 new B737NGs on the other. On the GPA side, the establishment of Novel Leasing and negotiation of the new aircraft order were my responsibility. Fun facts: the GPA SPV that held GPA's shares in Novel Leasing was named Bowtie in my honour; and the Boeing SPV that held Boeing's shares in Novel Leasing was named 'Canard' - a rare but impressive demonstration of irony and innuendo from our close US friends.

Vice President, Corporate FinanceGpa Group Plc Mar 1990 - Nov 1997Part of the senior management team that restructured GPA, once the world's largest aircraft leasing company, in the mid-90s. Particular responsibility for OEM relationships and re-negotiation of the company's new order book with airframe OEMs (Airbus and Boeing) and engine OEMs (CFM International, IAE, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce). Executed one of the world's largest ever order cancellations: $2 Billion+ of new orders; and led the establishment of Novel Leasing Limited, a bankruptcy-remote Boeing/GPA joint venture that ordered a dozen B737 New Generation aircraft. Novel (for 'new order vehicle') was a resounding success, delivering two aircraft before being unwound by mutual consent for Boeing to re-sell the remaining delivery positions in a seller's market and GPA to recapture a significant portion of pre-delivery payments that would otherwise have been forfeit. Also part of the corporate finance team that raised, and then restructured, GPA's multi-billion dollar secured debt facilities with major loan syndicates and bilateral lenders; and heavily involved in GPA's SEC filings for its $750m Yankee Bond.
