A banker for 18 years before starting STAC Capital in 2017, I built my experience in business and property banking, rising through the ranks from the very bottom as a teller, then junior analyst in the heady days of the early 2000's, gaining my first management role in 2006 and progressing further into senior management as the GFC rolled through - experiencing all that came with that infamous stage in the economic cycle. Leveraging my experience in banking & finance, combined with a solid breadth & depth of relationships across a wide spectrum of industries, financial institutions, investors and professionals, as well as skills learned whilst undertaking my MBA at Australia's #1 rated Business School (UQ), in 2017 I ventured into business with Dale Sparke to build an advisory business that would stand out amongst it competitors. Most people refer to us as “STAC”. Inspired by the term 'capital stack' and fortuitously also a fusion of our initials (Sparke & Trayner Advisory & Commercial Capital), in 2017 the STAC brand was born. The union of two senior commercial bankers who turned their backs on corporate life in search of a better way to connect the business and property sector with structured finance options, without clients having to sacrifice or settle for subpar deals. We source, structure and negotiate finance for businesses, property developments, residential, and investment assets of all types and sizes. From splitters and duplexes to towers and master-planned communities; from car loans and overdrafts to international trade finance and Mergers & Acquisitions; we've written more than $1B in deals since STAC was founded in 2017. Partnering with some of Australia's most aspiring companies and developers, we know how to match the deal to the mission. Our Mission is to play a key part in Australia's economy creators and creation, by opening doors to more than 300 funding options (from banks to private lenders), raising the bar on ethical standards, and fostering a high performance culture that prioritises balance over burnout. Our whole business was born out of wanting to get deals done for our clients. Rebelling against the rigidity of a system that was more tortoise than hare, without sacrificing a high standard of advice and professionalism. Our motivation has always been to provide clients with choice and certainty. But it’s our people and approach that make this possible. We cherry pick those who share the same drive and ambition, from ex bankers to experienced brokers. We love the thrill of the chase and we never settle for subpar deals.

Experiences Instead Of ExperienceWorld Traveller Mar 2013 - Nov 20132013 was all about experiences for me - a time to take a break from the "real world" and see the world with my partner, Laura. We strapped on the backpack to see temples aplenty in Thailand, amazing scenery in Laos, a natural wonder of the world in Vietnam, then were sobered by learning more about the all too recent Khmer-Rouge atrocities in Cambodia. We bought a car at auction in Germany, walked around beautiful Amsterdam, drank crazy-good Hot Chocolate in Belgium, ate snails in France, rode horses through vineyards and past 500 year old villas in Tuscany, took in the majesty of Vienna, were harrowed at Auschwitz and Treblinka camps in Poland, saw countless "casino [and brothels?]" advertisements in Lithuania (but I swear we didn't go in!), ate a surprisingly expensive meal in Latvia, bought a shopping trolley full of cheap alcohol in Estonia, then drove onto the ferry to get to Finland, where we spent a month with Laura's family, eating reindeer and having countless saunas!I wore a kilt for the first time at a wedding in Scotland, relaxed with my sister, her husband and my gorgeous 5 year old niece in England. We then put the backpack on again, overloaded on Tacos, beer and tequila in Mexico; rice, beans and rum in Cuba, climbed two volcanoes in Guatemala (one peak at 13,000 feet, which was the hardest exercise I've ever done, thanks to the reduced oxygen at that height!), finally nearly went mad in the 4th world Nicaragua! What an adventure - nevertheless it was still great to come home! -
Senior Business Banking ManagerNational Australia Bank Jul 1999 - Mar 2013I spent 12 years working within NAB's Business Banking, starting in Canberra, then on the northside of Brisbane, getting my first management job in 2006 in Airlie Beach, before coming back to Brisbane northside in early 2008 as the GFC started rocking the world.Experience in a wide range of industries and facets of commercial banking, including: - Property Development & Investment- Construction- Distressed risk management- High net worth individuals- Interest Rate risk management- Foreign Exchange risk management- Credit Analysis / Decisioning- Manufacturing- Wholesaling- Import / Export- International Trade- Commodity hedgingI always played a role more than just a debt funder – actively being involved with all professionals and consultants involved throughout a project, to ensure as smooth and successful an outcome as possible. I actively managed many distressed assets, together with clients, successfully negotiating many ‘win-win’ outcomes in situations where the outcome most likely would have otherwise been a foreclosure at loss to all parties.
