About Mark S. Langevin, Ph.D.

I am Deputy Course Chair for the Economic and Commercial Studies Division of the School of Professional and Area Studies at the Foreign Service Institute of the State Department.I also serve as a Senior Advisor to Horizon Engage (energy policy and political risk) and Adjunct Professor and Senior Fellow at the Schar School of Policy and Government-George Mason University. I am particularly interested in examining the people, technologies, policies and institutions that shape the global transition to low-carbon development. Previously, I was the Director of the Brazil Initiative at the Elliott School of International Affairs-The George Washington University, Director of BrazilWorks, and International Advisor to Abrapa (the Brazilian Cotton Producers Association), chief negotiator for AFSCME, SEIU, and consultant with Public Services International (PSI). I am trained in inferential statistics, research design and methods, and political risk analysis. Fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish.I spend most of my time in Washington, D.C. and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
