Today, low-income forestry communities, that have a mature forest, are excluded from selling traditional carbon offsets. Traditional intermediaries regard their carbon sequestration as “business-as-usual” rather than “Additional”. As a consequence, some low-income communities resort to deforestation, and starting bushfires, to convert their forest land.
