Summit County 911 Public Safety Communications, June 2006 to April 2021Radio TechnicianAs a Radio Systems Administrator for Summit County Colorado my primary duties consisted of installing new or broken equipment, maintaining and providing technical support and service of complex wireless communications equipment for 911 dispatching systems. Programming mobile, portable radio equipment, dispatch consoles, and microwave systems. Analyzing malfunctions and equipment failures of various network operating systems such as servers, gateways and routers used in radio communications systems. Documentation of system and equipment repairs, modifications and changes as part of ongoing service and maintenance system operating procedures, consulting with client department representatives, service providers and vendors, other radio staff, and technical staff as needed in resolving communication system problems. Performing related duties as assigned with a 911 emergency services center which provides dispatching for Law, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services. Project team leader on many projects such as radio site and radio tower installations and demolitions. I improved the County’s radio system by replacing over 6 radio sites. From designing the sites, obtaining approval, coordinating the components, installing the equipment, and tuning and programming each device. I replaced the County’s conventional VHF system with a 5 site, 4 channel, VHF simulcast system. Frequency coordination with the FCC for implementation of radio channels in Summit County. Digital Trunk Radio Talk group coordination with the Consolidated Communications Network of Colorado (CCNC) for Summit County agencies to use the State DTR system. COMT for the Northwest region of the State of Colorado and as a COMT I was deployed to an ICS response for a number of emergencies requiring interoperable communications between a wide variety of emergency responders.

I joined the United States Army right out of high school. I went to AIT in August Georgia for multi channel transmission operator. There I learned about DTM (Digital Trunking Multiplexers) and MSE (Mobile Subscriber Equipment). I have been stationed with units in Fort Gordon Georgia, South Korea, and Fort Hood Texas. With these units I deployed for a humanitarian mission Honduras and did 3 combat tours in Iraq. I am very experienced with many means of communication. My knowledge with radios, repeater sites and troubleshooting techniques lead me to my current employment with the Summit County 911 dispatch center.
