Defined and drove Microsoft Research's academic external research agenda in the areas of manycore computing and concurrency, virtual machines and managed execution, dynamic languages, and operating systems. Launched Microsoft-Intel sponsored Manycore Computing research centers at two top US universities with funding of $35 million. Defined and executed global research RFPs in managed execution, code generation and analysis, concurrency, and safe and highly scalable multicore computing, funding and managing to fruition over 100 projects. Drove successful IP licensing from funded projects to Microsoft product groups. Rebuilt the Microsoft/ACM Student Research Competition into a vibrant outreach/pipeline program reaching over 500 students and 12 top-tier research conferences annually. Championed projects to improve gender equity in Computer Science education.

Independent film production. Executive produced director Matt Wolf's prize-winning documentary Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell. Wild Combination premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and went on to screen at film festivals worldwide, theatrical and DVD release, and licensing to SundanceTV, Criterion Channel, and other networks. Currently distributed by Oscilloscope Laboratories and available to view on major video platforms.

Drove ISV adoption of Windows NT running on RISC architectures, securing dozens of top-tier application wins. As special project for Bill Gates, successfully negotiated first Windows NT academic source licenses with top research universities in US and Asia.

Wrote technical specifications for and drove delivery of the Cairo operating system’s DCE RPC services, tools, and related infrastructure.

Specified and managed delivery of all installation and configuration management functionality for Microsoft's LAN Manager networking product. Project managed delivery of LAN Manager SDK and edited accompanying programmer's reference book.

Architected component model for company’s entire OS/2-based product line. Overhauled and reimplemented a full-featured windowing system and GUI including device-independent graphics, Windows look-and-feel, and printer support for company’s LISP-on-DOS-based product line, improving product performance 20x.

Contributed to Intermedia, an advanced pre-Web hypermedia environment for authoring and utilizing deeply-linkable dynamic rich content in a scholarly context.
