The full range of gasoline and diesel engines provide the latest in control technology, unique safety, efficiency and durability.I was asked to consult &project manage the boat building division for Caudwell Marine as they were competing in the International F1 boat racing circuit. Due to my previous racing experience I was responsible for the design and construction features and building of 2 x brand new F1 race boats and bespoke RHIB tenders that were to showcase the Caudwell Marine AXIS Drive. The experience gained with CM and in the competitive F1 racing environment provided me with a new perspective on boat building.Managing the team of highly specialized sub-contractors located here and abroad showed me what can be gained through out-sourcing of base and sub-assemblies while still maintaining final manufacturing control. Started by my brother Robert Louw (ex Springbok rugby player and legend) the company manufactured racing inflatable boats. I joined the company after he was involved in a serious boat racing accident. I had just qualified as a dental technician and put a lot of what I learnt WRT symmetry and high tech material use into the design and manufacture of the boats. His misfortune led me to my passion, designing, building and personally testing my creations at high speed in all types of offshore sea conditions. The detailed design and rigorous demands of building and testing them for racing led to several championship titles:• South African Inflatable boat champion (overall 1st position out of 4 disciplines) in 1991 and 1992• Trans Agulas Long Haul Race Champion (a five day endurance race) in 1991 & 1992 Rob and myself have a very close and special brotherly connection and working with Rob in the company also allowed me to spend more time with him. Rob continued his rugby career by taking up a coaching position for a local South Italian rugby club side “L’ Aquila 1995 which led to the shuttering of the company and that is when I started MAKO.
