Mark D. Maddox (he/him) is a queer nerd and community leader. He was raised on a beef cattle farm in a rural Washington town of 2,000 before moving to Seattle after graduating high school. San Diego became home in 2013 and he quickly explored value-aligned volunteer opportunities like Trevor Project, Lambda Archives of San Diego (current Board VP), and San Diego Pride. His volunteer shift at Pride 2015 evolved to other volunteer leadership roles. Mark worked a decade of corporate retail, supervised student employees at Birch Aquarium, and served as Director of Volunteer Engagement at Mama’s Kitchen from 2019-2022. He became San Diego Pride staff in 2022 as the inaugural Director of Programs and ultimately Senior Director of Programs before leaving San Diego Pride in April.Mark is an alumnus of The San Diego LGBTQ Center's Young Professionals Council Academy (2018) and the Fieldstone Leadership Network's Leaders Learning Group (2023). He participated in the Department of State’s Professional Fellows Program hosting a Thailand-based fellow in 2022 and facilitating queer and trans programming in Bangkok in 2023. Mark has a passion for local politics and civic engagement. He supported several local campaigns with field and fundraising efforts, regularly dives into financial disclosures for fun (460s and 990s are his favorites), and served on the City of San Diego Commission on Police Practices.
