About Mark Mcarthey
I’ve been drawn to technology since I was twelve years old, huddled over my Commodore VIC-20, eager to learn how to make it dance. Using POKEs and PEEKs, I managed to create an "animated" splash screen, meticulously backing it up to my trusted tape drive. But when I tried to load it again, I found only an out of memory error staring back. It was a lesson early on: even in code, life has its limits. Yet I was hooked, undeterred, and soon onto the IBM XT 8080, building machines from scratch, scripting in DOS, and becoming the go-to tech guy for everyone I knew. This fascination followed me into high school, where I got my hands on a PDP-11 mainframe, and then all the way through my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in development and design. What started as curiosity turned into a lifelong calling: exploring, questioning, and solving.Professionally, I’ve honed that passion into the skills of an IT architect with experience in project management, business and systems analysis, and software development. I’m especially drawn to the frameworks that connect it all—the design and creation of systems that optimize both efficiency and scalability, ensuring each component supports the whole. My experience spans various programming languages and methodologies, a versatility I bring to each project, and an eye always trained on the architecture that makes solutions tick.Teaching and working in technology are, for me, about creating clarity from complexity. It’s about guiding others through the fog of new knowledge, showing them how to design with simplicity, precision, and function at the core. Technology shifts, methodologies change, and languages evolve, but the goal remains: to build systems that endure.I love the discovery of new technologies and the rhythm of problem-solving, from the lows of a challenge to the thrill of an elegant solution. For me, technology isn’t just a career; it’s an endless pursuit—a way to bring order and meaning to the modern world’s endless data and details.
