Current research interests are radiation dose optimisation, radiation dose reference levels in diagnostic radiography and breast density measurement. My goal is to achieve evidenced-based practice in medical imaging from acquisition to perception of images.

Current research interests are wide ranging and mainly revolve around; Perception in Medical Imaging, Receiver Operating Characteristic analysis of performance, human performance and performance errors - particularly in medical imaging interpretation, as well as dose and image quality analysis. This research has the aim of improving radiological diagnostic performance. Current research concentrates on performance in chest, musculoskeletal and breast imaging, teleradiology, PACS, medical imaging and eye movement recording technology. In dosimetry I have developed projects in CT Diagnostic Reference Levels and collective doses in Ireland, Portugal and in Malta. I collaborate widely with other research groups and industries, nationally and internationally. I am the editor of Radiography Ireland, author of over 100 articles in international scientific journals and a reviewer for 6 international journals. I have also been the organiser and Chair of 2 National Scientific Conferences and has presented over 80 presentations at international scientific conferences. I am also heavily involved in teaching in Diagnostic Imaging, RIS-PACS and Intra-venous administration and cannulation. Recently have received teaching awards from the College of Life Sciences and the School of Medicine and Medical Science.
