Following an intensive team restructure I was promoted to Senior Technical Officer. I was immediately tasked with addressing an Internet issue that had plagued the Shire for the previous twelve months with regular service disruptions. I successfully found and resolved the root cause of this issue and systematically implemented all identified improvements required.In addition to this, I performed a cost-feasibility analysis of the replacement of existing SSL certificates with a wildcard certificate, which I found to be favourable and was able to recommend this action to our IT team for implementation. I replaced all wireless access points with Cisco Meraki devices and implemented a self-administering guest WiFi service.I was also made aware of a long-standing, unaccomplished need to perform VM-level backups. Previously a task that had not successfully been achieved, I was very pleased to be able to complete this task using a product currently in use, Backup Exec.

Provided first- and second-level support across all levels of Council (200+ users), constantly using and maintaining an ITIL compliant system. Corporate business systems used included HP TRIM, HPE Content Manager, Pathway, IntraMaps and Conquest. During a team restructure, I quickly adapted to the change and was the sole support for Council for an extended period of time.I enjoyed going beyond the borders of my core role. Doing so enabled exemplar business support and provided our small IT team with an increased capacity to deliver business needs. This included maintaining our HP Blade Matrix infrastructure and HP SAN, creating and configuring new ESXi hosts and virtual machines, maintaining network infrastructure by implementing and supporting Cisco Meraki VPN to remote sites and configuring VLAN ports.

As the organisation's in-house IT expert, this role presented a great opportunity to build upon and improve multiple facets of their IT infrastructure and operations. I joined during a challenging period for the company, as Safetech had just commenced a merger with Tieman Industries.Following the merger, new staff located in multiple states needed to be brought online. Though budgets were constrained and time-frames short, an existing private cloud was utilised to save on costs, followed by implementation of a load-balanced RDS farm on VMware infrastructure and HP P2000 SAN. The solution not only met the current business requirement, it was also designed to help address the issue of an aging desktop fleet.Other successes included:► Rectifying DR plan using Symantec Backup Exec v12.5 and implementing tape backup regime.► Upgrading fibre-optic link between main site and remote workshop from 100Base to Gigabit.► Working with IT consultant to upgrade Exchange 2007 to 2013.► Improving Active Directory health by creating service accounts and removing unused accounts.► Creating IT Asset Tracking system using VBscript with WMI queries and SQL Server database.► Customising M1 ERP software (VB.NET), including reports using Crystal Reports.► Improving security by configuring Bitdefender Cloud Security for endpoints and MessageLabs.

Constantly prioritised and resolved incidents in a highly active environment and ensured continuous operations of the hospital's ICT infrastructure. I quickly learnt several business systems, including EDIS, i.PM, Imprivata OneSign, CMI and iPharmacy, and liased with vendors.I strictly followed change control processes to upgrade the Intranet Content Management System (Intranet Dashboard), which provided greater stability and additional features to end-users.Identified a cost-saving opportunity to consolidate office printers. Sought feedback from affected department managers and prepared a business case, saving $17,000 over 5 years. A very rewarding project to implement, particularly because it was at a time when funding had been cut.

Identified improvement opportunities, collaborated with stakeholders and developed applications to improve processes and efficiencies. One such application, VB.NET with Crystal Reports, produced user-defined reports showing product quality information that were sent to the customer, significantly improving response times. Other reports generated were extremely helpful in locating defective stock and minimising potential customer impact.Another key application I developed allowed offsite despatch contractors to instantaneously update and convey truck availabilities to despatch crews from each area of the Mill, giving crews the ability to prepare product loads in advance. Previously, this information was constantly faxed or telephoned and was often received late or not at all.Project managed the upgrade of Oracle 8i to Oracle 10g Release 1, going above and beyond to ensure a seamless upgrade with no impact on users.

Responsible for the continuous operation and improvement of the ABB MES, a production planning and tracking, and quality management system critical to operations. Actively partook in knowledge sharing, training and assisting team members. I developed VB.NET applications that utilised real-time data from the DCS to automate accurate data entry into the system.I also created and enhanced a host of Crystal Reports, including automatically distributed daily and shift summary reports, which became integral to management and operations. Often engaged by managers to design new reports to identify issues and help improve paper machine performance.
