I am a doctoral scholar with the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology), a pan-European initiative that aims to create economic growth through fast-growing innovative firms. The EIT supports the creation of tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and promotes a real change of mindset towards an entrepreneurial culture and attitude. The EIT supports my Ph.D. work through their "wealth and well-being" action line. The research itself focuses on creating pro-social games and gameful experiences in the form of low-threshold encounter-based experiences enabled by interactive technologies.

As part of my EIT business development experience (BDX), I work with a talented team of game designers, analysts, producers, and software developers to produce market-ready mobile games. At Thoughtfish, games and other digital services are centered around a proprietary platform called COALA. COALA serves as a digital service that aggregates various data (i.e. crime, weather, and spatial data) and makes it available to third-parties for rendering and creating location and context-aware offerings in the form of an API. My duties at Thoughtfish entail researching new technologies, API analysis, and creating new features (unit tests) for COALA in C#, C++ using the Unity game engine and Visual Studio.

Trust in Play (TIP) supports emerging professionals in the field of urban game design, mentoring them to build a sustainable practice and playfully exploring new relationships of trust in cities. My traineeship with Trust in Play supported the development of a machine-learning powered urban game called Cathens. Cathens is a treasure hunt game(mobile app) whereby players have to gain the trust of stray cats in Athens in order to solicit clues on where to find hidden treasures in Athens. TIP also supported the development of my game Time Hunter, another urban exploration game powered by vibro-tactile sensation.

I was a Ph.D. student of HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) at the University of Trento, Italy. My research is in the area of Applied Games and focuses on optimizing motivational aspects of IT-based game interventions through reflective design. My research considers how interactive games can enhance social interaction between strangers, especially seniors who are at risk of social isolation. I am more generally interested in the translation of socio-psychological constructs into technical design requirements that enhance technology adoption. Other interests include front-end web development technology, interaction design, IT entrepreneurship, electronic music machines, microelectronics (sensors) and citizen engagement.
