Software Engineer on CoNNeCT project for the International Space Station. CoNNeCT is a communication and navigation test bed for the moon and mars missions.I am decomposing requirements from level 1 through level 5. Designing the tracking and pointing software for the antenna gimbal system to find and keep the antenna pointed at the communication satellite. The Antenna Pointing System used an Artificial Intelligence algorithm, gradient decent, to learn the position of the antenna to get a better peak signal strength to improve the maximum data rate of the link.

The system involved a client / server architecture. The client is an embedded SBC controller running on a RTOS, VxWorks. The host ran on LINUX. The two parts of the system were connected over an Ethernet network using TCP/IP. * Developed a standard set of code to convert from little Endian to big Endian. Isolate the conversion at the Ethernet layer.* Worked with hardware designers to create and debug the new hardware and its interface to the driver.* Converted Windows based drivers to VxWorks drivers. Used the VxWorks kernel to keep a pool of memory so that multiple instruments could coexist in the system at once.* Used the Internet to find a freeware CRC algorithm, saving the development time.* Created wrappers for third party supplied driver – cut the development time in half.* Used XML to store the data on the server.* Used XSLT as the style sheet to create the HTML pages that displayed data.

Design and develop the software for an Image Processor and Storage Unit (IPSU) for NASA’s experiment rack on the Space Station. The IPSU used a SBC running on a Pentium computer.* Efficiently used VxWorks to manage the tasks so that all of the jobs were performed with out undue waiting, avoided priority inversions * Implement a CRC32 algorithm to verify that the data sent and received was exactly the same.* Developed the IPSU from the requirement documents. * Wrote the test plans to verify the requirements. Performed the test plans with NASA and Quality Assurance as witnesses.* Held test plan reviews with the customer and quality assurance.* PVCS administrator.

Designed and produced two generations of Auto Profile Control systems that worked with our scanning and control systems. Auto Profile Control worked by using the scanned image of the product and comparing it to the desired profile. Then if needed a correction was made by using the production equipment. * Designed multiple tuning tools to assist in system set up, saving weeks and thousands dollars, not all customers needed the ANN.* Designed an AI Auto Profile Control system similar to the Facts system, but software and OS were slower, which required a new algorithm to get the same performance. * Designed a Fuzzy Logic controller to replace a PID loop, avoiding the Patented application

Created an Auto Profile control system that used an Artificial Neural Network to find the patterns, Artificial Intelligence. Code was not Object Orient, resulting in little code reuse, converted code to C++, which facilitated code (object) reuse.Effectively utilized Object Oriented design processes to encapsulate data and create manageable projects, savings time and money in the design process.
