I am a 4th year university student, studying a Bachelor of Social Work at Western Sydney University. Through the completion of my tertiary education, I hope to create further opportunities to continuously develop the knowledge and experience I have already gained. The primary objectives moving forward in my career; are to be in an area that is both challenging and rewarding, provides plentiful chances to interact and assist vulnerable individuals and facilitate further growth in my knowledge and understanding of social work. These aspects have become very clear throughout more social work centered role experiences. Throughout my placement experiences, I have been able to particularly develop my ability to interact with clients and my researching abilities. As both placement experiences had been affected by Covid-19, research became a primary focus and I was able to complete various projects, such as literature reviews, formulating systems for calculating referral data and developing brochure/booklet ideas. However, with my first placement (Seniors Rights Service), who I was then hired by, I deepened my understanding an ability to communicate with vulnerable people over the phone and the referral systems available for various situations. Conversely, my placement at Broderick Gillawarna School provided a brief opportunity to interact with and observe a classroom environment for children with disability. These both provided a great deal of opportunities for personal and professional growth and have helped me to identify what I am aiming towards, career-wise.

Student Social Work Support RoleBroderick Gillawarna School Jun 2021 - PresentIn my second placement, which I am currently undertaking, the primary population I work with is children with disability. I was initially able to work with students in their classrooms and observing the interactions between them and the teachers. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, work became primarily online. Through which, I have developed my ability to effectively research various areas of concern and interest surrounding children with disability. Additionally, I have created resources for parents and students to access for both learning at home and possible readjusting to a school environment. I am continuously attempting to create resources and gather information to assist students, parents and teachers, wherever possible. -
Intake OfficerSeniors Rights Service Jan 2020 - Jun 2021Sydney, New South Wales, AustraliaThis role began as a placement opportunity for a social work student, when this placement period ended, I was promptly hired by the organisation. Through this role, I was working with vulnerable older people by conducting a primarily over-the-phone service, providing them with assistance from either my organisation or an appropriate referral to another service. It also facilitated opportunities to interact in a multi-disciplinary team with social workers, advocates and lawyers, which was immensely insightful in helping my understanding of the various approaches and skills utilised by these different disciplines. I was also able to utilise interpreter services to work with clients that did not have English as a first language, in addition to using my own proficiency in my secondary language to build rapport and gather appropriate information from clients. It was an immensely significant experience that helped further my professional development. -
AssistantOnogost Painting And Cleaning Services Jul 2017 - Nov 2017Sydney, New South Wales, AustraliaI was employed in a family painting business for a short period of time. This helped to develop my skills in physical labour and administrative abilities. I was responsible for organising the workstations for the working days and ensuring that every employee had the appropriate tools for the project. I was also responsible for cleaning the workstations when the workday was over, while prepping anything that was too difficult to do in the morning, this helped streamline the working process. Additionally, I handled paying the workers at the end of the contract period.

Cashier Customer ServiceMcdonald'S Oct 2016 - Mar 2017Sydney, New South Wales, AustraliaI was employed with McDonald's for a short period of time. In this time, however, I learnt valuable skills that have helped to develop my work ethic and ability going forward. I was fortunate to be employed as a cashier, who was able to interact with customers and take down their orders, while also having other responsibilites such as cleaning the restaurant and managing the drive through. The interactions with customers, definitely played a major role in developing my customer service abilities in the long run. Also, the work environment assisted in ensuring that I could operate in a high pressure and fast moving environment, without losing the ability to think clearly and logically.
