I have been a computer scientist, software engineer, entrepreneur and executive. After leaving Stanford's Ph.D. program, I founded and grew CodeSourcery, a software development tools business. I sold CodeSourcery to Mentor Graphics, where I was responsible for M&A, product management, marketing, and engineering for open-source technologies. After my time at Mentor Graphics, I became an active angel investor. I have invested in dozens of start-ups and served on the board of several. In 2021, I joined SRI International, dividing my time between computer science research and SRI's ventures group. I am fascinated by technology, business, and the business of technology.

Software EngineerCenterline Software 1994 - 1997I was part of the design and implementation team for CenterLine's static and dynamic error-detection tools. Most of my work involved compiler or compiler-like development, including connecting C and C++ front-ends to static analysis back-ends, developing static analysis checks, and implementing dynamic instrumentation of source code. I also developed an Xt-based GUI for browsing errors reported by the tools.
