So, yeah. I had lofty dreams in electronics engineering when I was 22. I'm 49. My original plan was to do electronics repair - TVs, VCRs, and stereos. That escalated quickly once I began upgrading for entry into BCIT which took 3 years. The whole thing was a joke? Looks maybe like it, but no.I was just about to begin at BCIT but instead I decided to move to Oregon in March 2001, so I got to see my other country 6 months before it changed forever. Honor roll 1st term at PCC, a 31 year accredited institution. Dropped out after they lost their accreditation in what, 2003? Moved home, and once again enrolled at BCIT. I did ok, not great. But I was set to graduate and still had a bright future!Dad got cancer, I'm sure you all know this story. No excuses here, this was life. Not trying to impress anyone here anymore. Dad went into hospice the weekend before grad exams. I think I did pretty good my last year considering I was spending every weekend in Victoria with dad. Not bad.He passed, I went a little weird, and bought a place in Ucluelet. Surfed for a year. Then did the best work of my life there. Met my wife there. Recession caused us to move back to the city for opportunity. I was still trying to get my feet wet in tech. No dice. Then Victoria wasn't panning out financially. So we moved to Calgary - and got to see that place before it changed. It was luck and chance that got us back to Victoria (always the plan) and then there were even more surprises. We're (I dunno what to call it) well-to-do now. Future is bright.I think I will continue doing what I'm doing since I enjoy it the most. There's a big technology leap coming soon. As I get older, automation will assist me, or maybe I'll be an owner-operatior of an autonomous fleet of stuff, who knows.I have no career regrets and I'd have paid 2x for my education. I use it every day. It changed my life.
