Developing and managing EERE-funded RD&D efforts in hydrogen infrastructure that encompass transmission, distribution, compression, storage, and dispensing of hydrogen, including:• Analyzing the application of experimental theories and/or new applications and developments for research and development.• Developing strategies and tactics for future activities to meet technology development goals.• Developing requirements, long term goals, objectives, and schedules for the accomplishment of applied research and development and deployment of technologies.• Preparing briefings, presentations, and other communications to convey the status of research, projects, or programs.

• Supported the development and implementation of practices and procedures to ensure safety in operating, handling, and using hydrogen and hydrogen systems.• Worked with domestic and international organizations to identify current coverage gaps in codes and standards and determined the technical data needed to address these gaps.• Facilitated the creation, adoption, and harmonization of model codes and equipment standards for hydrogen systems.• Assisting in other office program areas including hydrogen storage, electrolysis, hydrogen delivery, and hydrogen blending.

• Developed and managed fuel cell and hydrogen technology development projects at FuelCell Energy, a leading developer of fuel cell technologies. Oversaw accounting, information systems, marketing, intellectual property, and facility operations.• Developed over 40 proposals for federal government solicitations and industrial partner efforts including both the technical statements of work and cost proposals, securing over half of all proposals submitted. Participated in the management of approximately 25 of these projects, meeting most technical milestone and budget requirements.• Designed and implemented improved processes and tools for project tracking and reporting resulting in more consistent and timely project management metrics. These tools supported proposal and reporting requirements, interfaced with data from timekeeping and accounting systems, and generated information for earned value management reporting.• Created over ten volume-driven cost models for fuel cell stacks and systems, with some models incorporating Monte Carlo simulation structures. Evaluated addressable markets for residential-scale fuel cell products by analyzing housing characteristics, utility rates, anticipated fuel cell product characteristics, and customer payback requirements.• Developed several comprehensive business forecast models to generate business plans and prospectus data for potential investors. Created a monthly operational model for upper management to forecast staff billability and indirect cost structures. Restructured and streamlined monthly project invoicing data flow and processes, linking Dynamics AX data to Excel PowerPivot, saving over 80 hours monthly and greatly reducing the chance of erroneous billing.

• One of ten board members for the Centre for Marine CNG (later Petroforma), a research, development, testing, and consulting center providing innovative technology development in all aspects of marine compressed natural gas (CNG) and other off-shore natural gas monetization approaches.• Developed proposals to the Canadian government that when awarded, established and funded the Centre. Provided guidance for early target markets, services/capabilities, and potential customers.

• Developed and managed research, development and deployment projects related to natural gas and hydrogen vehicle technologies, natural gas and hydrogen fueling infrastructure, hydrogen safety, and economic evaluations for emerging alternative energy concepts and systems.• Created both a hydrogen and a natural gas fueling station life-cycle cost model incorporating Monte Carlo structures and a wide range of cost structures. Teamed with RAND to assess the prospects for private sector investment in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. Developed a market/product cost model for residential-scale fuel cell products. Published a study of natural gas vehicle storage container manufacturers and projected container demand, manufacturers’ costs, and aggregate material needs for all container design and manufacturer types.• Developed two business plans (for a fuel cell equipment subsidiary and an industrial equipment joint venture) that included analyses and projections of markets, costs, and financials. Created a business plan and developed a commercialization strategy for a company in which GTI was an owner. • Led a project to develop and validate a ship-board compressed natural gas storage system intended for use in large-scale transport of off-shore natural gas resources. This successful sub-scale demonstration helped secure additional investment funding for the client.• Authored over 20 papers on hydrogen safety, hydrogen fueling performance and economics, on-site hydrogen production, fuel cell system development, small fuel cell economics, and compressed gas storage technology and economics. Presented at over a dozen national conferences on similar topics as above.

• Developed computer models and dynamic simulations for turbine engine hydro-mechanical fuel control systems from initial design through production and deployment.• Led a pilot program to reduce design errors through the use of computerized rules-based design.
