In my 29 years of commercial flying I have gained experience in a variety of aviation operations from single-crew light twins to multi-crew long-haul wide bodies and now VVIP corporate flying within an airline AOA. I have been a Captain for over 21 years and held training positions for the last 17. We learn as much as we teach in the role of Instructor and Examiner/Evaluator. All these roles bring with them the responsibilities of coach, mentor and trainer. These responsibilities bring with them a requirement to understand the needs of the trainee so that a positive learning environment can be created for all involved. All stakeholders can then move forward together, trusted, in the strive to maintain and improve standards. We have a responsibility to attain and maintain the highest of safety levels giving trust and confidence between us and our passengers.I have been involved with training and development projects, striving to maintain and develop my own skillset to the highest of standards:• Part of the Emirates Evidence Based Training working group. Initially helping to introduce the A330 CCQ course and then a move to the the A380 CCQ and its course development. It required understanding and compliance of Industry regulations (aircraft manufacturer and Authority) and to work alongside the Boeing 777 team to ensure Training harmonisation across the Company’s aircraft fleets.• Member of a small team that updated and enhanced the Emirates ‘Train the Trainer’ Courses; from Teaching & Learning (CORE) through to Type Rating Instructor and Examiner. • Actively involved in presenting, via Microsoft TEAMs format, the Evidence Based Training Module introduction to Emirates team of Instructors and Examiners. With follow up shadowing of EBT Evaluators to provide support to them and give feedback of the transition to the Company.• Designing and developing EASA ATO Train the Trainer and A320 Type rating courses – Teaching & Learning Course and Type Specific Rating.Post Holder course completed February 2023.Worldwide operations including ETOPS, North Atlantic and LVO qualifications.Current, valid ratings: A320 (GCAA, EASA and UK) inc TRE (GCAA A320); TRI (GCAA A320; EASA A320); Class 1 medical (GCAA, EASA & UK)Still learning - and always will be.
