It's been a privilege and blessing to use the lessons I've learned over a career in the fires of high-stakes politics and public engagement to now train and mentor business-minded aspiring civic, public and strategic leaders who want to use their real-world experience, skills and talent to address critical issues for the public good.WHAT THEY'VE DONE. Graduates have emerged from a local nonpartisan training program or seminar - in markets like Orlando, San Diego and others, as well as the nation of Belize (civic) - to serve in elected and appointed office, civic engagement, strategic leadership and policy advocacy and our success is the difference they've made. HOW IT'S POSSIBLE. They stepped forward - often anxious at first - because business and community leaders and investors had the foresight to make their local program, boot camp or seminar a reality. Graduates discovered that before they could make a difference, they needed to make a plan for successfully transitioning into the public arena, addressing critical personal and professional challenges, capitalizing on their opportunities, building their reputation or expertise and learning how to rally advocates who will help them succeed, among many lessons.WHAT THIS ISN'T.
