I am a Landscape Architect with a broad-ranging design and assessment background, with particular interest and experience in the production of Landscape / Townscape and Visual Impact Assessments.I advocate a landscape led approach to design underpinned by a strong analytical and placemaking focus. I have used this approach, and the associated skills, to inform the design of numerous consented development proposals.Project experience has been gained in or near sensitive urban and rural areas including Conservation Areas, World Heritage Sites, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, National Parks, and Special Amenity Areas. The inherent sensitivities of these locations required place-specific master planning, design, and mitigation responses. Experience has been gained on projects in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. Development contexts have included major infrastructure projects, residential developments, mixed-use and commercial developments, tall buildings, wind and solar developments, whisky distilleries, and mineral/aggregate quarries.Outside of the requirements for formal assessment work, the appraisal and assessment process has been used to good effect in pre-planning land interest/feasibility studies, masterplanning, concept design, and detailed design, ensuring that development proposals are robust and respond sensitively and positively within their context.
