Mark Saw Email and Phone Number
I am a highly organised and committed scientist with over ten years’ experience of collaborative technology innovation in the product and device development areas. I have gained good experience in scientific rigour, project management and collaborative/networking through a range of roles and worked closely with clients to deliver bespoke solutions to their technology needs. I have worked in a number of sectors; public whilst at SCY where I developed a bioscience network and supported businesses in and around York, private where I designed anti-counterfeiting solutions, in academia, and a combination of the two whilst working as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate. Key accomplishments include helping to found and start a successful scientific product development company in which I am still invested and employed, successfully submitting a patent for a method of using binding proteins as a replacement for antibodies in the anti-counterfeiting industry and winning the KTP award for best program in the North East.

Projects And Bioscience Network ManagerScy Jul 2010 - Sep 2013York, United KingdomI helped bioscience businesses in York to grow, collaborate and innovate. I encouraged inward investment by showcasing businesses and managed European funded projects in partnership with The University of York. I developed new business opportunities including innovation coaching and management for businesses, a network membership offer for bioscience companies and collaborated with national business networks e.g. OneNucleus and BioNOW. I ran relevant events for members such as how to apply for and write TSB grants. As part of the network offer to business I searched for accommodation, employees and expertise as well as completing technology market analyses. I wrote a successful joint bid to BIS with North Yorkshire County Council and the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership for a Business Growth Programme, providing capital grants to business. I used my science background and business startup experience to help companies collaborate, innovate and grow. -
Technology Development ScientistAuthentix Jul 2007 - Oct 2009York, United KingdomAfter I developed a proof of concept for a marker assay system during my KTP I was employed on a permanent basis to explore the commercial application of the science and prepare it for the market with client specific examples. In addition I worked on other technologies and projects. I also supervised the work of a PhD postgraduate biology student for two months prior to him completing his PhD.I used the experience of the KTP to full effect through close working associations with The Technology Facility at The University of York. This allowed more technologies to be explored and solutions for clients to be developed quickly and efficiently. -
Ktp AssociateAuthentix Jul 2005 - Jul 2007York, United KingdomI completed a KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) program in conjunction with The University of York and Authentix. This involves 2 years of project work on a specific technology using the University's expertise and equipment to develop it for industrial/commercial use. The work was patented. The KTP program was highly successful, winning a regional award from the organising body and attaining the highest grade, a Certificate of Excellence, from the independent program assessors.Throughout the program I used much of the highly sophisticated equipment in the Technology Facility, Dept of Biology in the University as well as driving the process of bringing a technology to industry. The program also benefits from extensive management training (both residential weeks and optional courses) through which I gained a level IV NVQ in management. -
ScientistNovacta Biosystems Ltd Jan 2005 - Jun 2005I assisted in an on-going project to identify more efficient methods of producing ethanol from bacterial fermentation. I successfully identified and extracted a commercially crucial bacterial gene enabling Novacta to modify and potentially increase ethanol production: an important work-stream contributing to the company's knowledge on bacterially produced biofuels.
