Current• NLC was instrumental in Lincoln Electric's (a $4B company) start up of a new Business Segment, “Additive Solutions”, which uses robots to 3D print large scale metal parts. NLC was the driving force on setting up a $22M Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to jointly develop this technology. We also discovered and help set up the acquisition of Tucker Innovations, Inc., and their proprietary path planning software tool, “SculptPrint”, to drive the robot’s motion directly from a digital CAD model. Finally, we helped win $5,000,000 in funding through an America Makes awarded R&D Project sponsored by the Office of Naval Research. Consequently, Lincoln Electric has made a $100,000,000 investment in starting this new business segment and has opened a new facility located in Euclid, Ohio.• NLC worked with Wolf Robotics’ (a $50M robotic welding automation company) on the development of CAR-W, a revolutionary new software tool (Computer Aided Robotic Welding) that uses digital CAD model data and eliminates the need for robot programming. This breakthrough approach has broken down the barriers to use robotic welding technology in low volume market applications that were never before possible. NLC road-mapped this software product’s incubation from the ground up, teamed the project, architected and won three National Shipbuilding Research Projects totaling $15,000,000 in funding to offset development costs, and helped manage and stand up the base technology in a two year period.• Operational centered projects during this time included work to implement a level loaded production system at MacLean Fogg, Inc., as well as work with a Steel Fabrication & Erection Company on Growth & Profit Improvement. Working with NLC, the client company grew from sales of $3.9 million to $7.6 million in its first year and reached $10.2 million by the end of the second year. Net Profits improved from 1% to 8.25%, and 9.4% accordingly.
