Co-owner, Director, CTO at Crucible Gaming Ltd.I have 23+ yrs industry experience in application development on a variety of platforms. I am an experienced whole-of-lifecycle "greenfield" developer of tools, games and applications from server, client-side and embedded perspectives, working from a spectrum of requirements ranging through formal design specifications to informal requirements capture. My previous role focused on maths verification and game simulators in Unity. For the 2 years before that I was part of the Mobile Team authoring a framework and game template in JavaScript/HTML5. I moved here from the AS3 R&D team where I was a major part of the team that built our new game framework for latest-generation AS3 development.I was previously working in C++, C# and AS3 using MFC and STL where appropriate, in managed, unmanaged and mixed environments. I also have a good working knowledge of Java, XML and Flash (CS5).I am evangelical about Object Oriented design and implementation whilst being well versed in procedural coding thanks to my 4+ years of OpenTV and MediaHighway programming.Specialties: I have expert level knowledge of the design and implementation of fixed odds casino games such as controlled outcome AWP, B3 fruit machines and random Slots.I am particularly interested in software structure and design supporting modularisation and re-use of componentised functional objects, and in building frameworks that provide rapid time-to-market for new games on multiple platforms. I still enjoy building games that delight and engage players. As a private project I wrote an HTML5/javascript slots framework leveraging open source libraries for rapid development and cross-platform deployment.

Senior Software DeveloperGts Ltd, A Playtech Company Jan 2018 - Apr 2020Continuing my role within the Playtech group of companies as Senior Developer of casino game engine math verification tools and game demonstrators which guarantee 100% alignment with the theoretical maths and overall design.I have integrated our verification tools with the Unity demonstrators that we build which has reduced code duplication and associated errors. The performance enhancements I introduced have reduced the time needed to balance the final maths, and the Unity demonstrators have reduced the time needed to produce the final game engines and their associated documentation by eliminating ambiguity. C#, Unity 2D, SVNI work under limited supervision and am responsible for providing work estimates and plans for myself, tracking my progress against plan and providing proactive correction. I also provide some leadership on projects of small to medium scale and provide technical guidance to other engineers.I have the ability to deconstruct complex technical problems and can communicate clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.Hold joint responsibility for interviewing and selecting student work placement candidates. In this role I reduced the time spent interviewing candidates by tightening our focus on skills while broadening the Q&A sessions into a more open discussion. I enjoy mentoring student and junior developers as I find that bringing their skills up to scratch helps to sharpen my own.
