The App Inventor Foundation (https://appnventorfoundation.org) is building a worldwide community of app inventors and educators and providing education for diverse audiences across age, culture, language, and ability.App Inventor (http://appinventor.mit.edu) is a free and open-source mobile app creation platform with the vision of enabling anyone of any age, including those who may not think of themselves as coders, to create highly functional apps for real, effective change in their communities. Co-founded 2007 by Professor Hal Abelson at MIT and myself at Google, App Inventor has grown to 15 Million registered users across 195 countries, with 1 Million monthly active users. Having been incubated at MIT for the past decade by some of the best researchers, scientists, and engineers in the world, App Inventor is now expanding beyond an MIT research project into a global nonprofit organization.

Over 1,500 schools use Piper to teach STEM, coding and design thinking.

Thunkable’s flagship product, Thunkable ✕, is a cross-platform, web-based platform for building mobile apps for professionals. It uses easy to customize app templates, enables easy connections to existing user data sources, and provides an intuitive drag and drop UI builder, and a visual blocks-based programming language.Provided technical design leadership on design, architecture and development of Thunkable ✕.Led engineering recruitment efforts.Helped lead corporate strategy as part of the company’s “tribal council” alongside founders and COO.Coded significant parts of Thunkable ✕.Managed the engineering staff, including regular, 1-1 meetings, performance reviews, career advice, brainstorming, etc.Led the technical side of the creator success team, interacting with users, helping to triage issues, providing high-leverage advice and examples, etc.Helped train junior engineers, product team members and creator success team in aspects of the product’s technical design and implementation that might help them do their jobs better.
