I am a Partner in Reed Smith's New York Labor & Employment team, helping companies in New York and around the world manage their workplace needs. I assist them in working through a range of issues, including:• Compliance with anti-discrimination and other equal employment opportunity laws• Compliance with wage and hour laws• Disabilities and leaves of absence• Human resource and personnel training• Reductions in force and restructuring• Trade secrets and restrictive covenants• Use of social media in the workplaceAdditionally, as a pioneering technology lawyer, I regularly regularly provide counsel and representation on artificial intelligence matters involving workplace issues.I also defend employers in a wide range of employment litigation matters. I have defended both single-plaintiff and class action claims involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour violations, leaves of absence, misappropriation of trade secrets, and other disputes arising out of the employment relationship. I have also represented clients in litigation involving restrictive covenants. I work with clients at every step of the litigation process to determine which cases should be litigated, which should be resolved in an alternative forum, and which can and should be settled. I also counsel clients on a variety of workplace issues, including policy development, risk assessment and litigation avoidance, conducting internal investigations, hiring, discipline, and discharge decisions, enforcement of restrictive covenants, drafting employment and separation agreements, government investigations, and an array of other issues. In addition, I have provided workplace training to managers and Human Resource professionals and have drafted employee handbooks and individual workplace policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local law. I also advise clients on all aspects of employment-related issues in corporate transactions.With regard to my practice, I have appeared on MSNBC Nightly News and been quoted by, among other outlets, the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, CNN, Yahoo, and Bloomberg.Lastly, I am passionate about mental health issues in the legal industry. I frequently speak about mental health-related topics, including through webinars, bar association events, and other programs/events.
