Mark Sletto has practiced exclusively in the area of employee benefits since 1984, including legal and consulting services for all forms of tax-qualified and non-qualified employer-sponsored retirement plans, with an emphasis on ESOPs. Mark has represented owners, employers, trustees (individual and institutional), and retirement plan service providers. He has also provided expert witness testimony, as well as support and guidance to litigation legal counsel for ERISA lawsuits in Federal District, Tax, and Appeals Courts.A large portion of his practice relates to tax favored ownership transitions using tools such as Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOP's) for ownership transition and for acquisition of target companies. Regarding ESOPs, he is available to represent employers, trustees, lenders, or selling shareholders in leveraged and non-leveraged transactions. In addition to transactional services, he provides a wide range of ESOP services such as feasibility, plan design and interpretation, operational and document compliance reviews and corrections, repurchase liability studies and management, etc. His services also include representing employers and trustees before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Department of Labor (DOL).
