Actuate (now OpenText) was an enterprise reporting platform used by various businesses worldwide. I was an Actuate employee after it acquired Tidestone Technologies, where we focused on tools for building Excel-based reports.

At the time I was there, SoftVu was primarily focused on the recruiting space with a video interviewing platform. The company eventually grew its technology to serve the mortgage and senior living space and is doing great things.

The company was named Visual Components when I joined in 1996 and was also a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc., during my tenure. It was eventually acquired by Actuate. The business sold software development tools and components to corporate development teams.

I worked all sides of the news gathering and production process at newspapers in Texas (Pampa), Kansas (KC Star, Olathe Daily News, Lawrence Journal-World), and South Carolina (Anderson Independent-Mail) back when newspapers were newspapers. I worked in the sports department at these locations.
