Student Intern

Los Angeles , California, Us

Development of a software solution to calculate the heat transfer in pourous media thermal barriers for insulating internal parts of solid propellant rocket motors. The code was written in QBASIC and employed the fundamentals of thermodynamics in a time dependent scheme to calculate the heat transfer in through a porous material taking into account compression heating and heat loss to the material (RVC) and ultimately tracked the temperature of the composite pressure vessel. Temperatures then could be fed to structural engineers to simulate the structure to ensure robust composite tank design.
