He has been instrumental in building a 6 person team, The Rakela Team, that has helped hundreds with their real estate needs. Moving to Hoboken in 2007 and buying a 2 bedroom condominium was when the goal of real estate home ownership became a reality but his passion for real estate can be traced back to his infancy. He was raised in New York City for two years when his parents locked in a 3 bedroom co-op on the Upper East Side. During the transaction, it became clear to his mother that the family needed to move to Switzerland for two years to treat Mark’s autistic sister (see our non-profit Georgiana Institute for more details). Unfortunately, the co-op board would not allow a sublet for 2 years so the contract was voided. This began a string of 7 homes until he went off to college at the age of 18. Hard working with his first job shelving books for the local library at the age of 14. Mark landed on a trading desk at the height of the NASDAQ Dot Com era and participated in the evolution of the equity Market Making ecosystem. From trading on paper and phones to fully electronic, the early 2000’s were exciting. At his start, the trading desk was humming with over 300 traders and raucous behavior. By his exit in 2018, there were 300 quantitative trading programmers and 30 traders. Finding immense joy in being a devoted father to three incredible kids and a supportive partner to an amazing woman.A passion for sailing materialized into a rewarding two-year project as a key contributor to the establishment of a Sailing School in Hoboken, New Jersey. This school boasts hundreds of youth and adults, honing the transformation skill of sailing on the mighty Hudson River and New York Harbor. A US Sailing and Nauticed certified sailing instructor and US Coast Guard certified Captain.Hitting the slopes since for as long as I can remember, I was lucky enough to strap on a snowboard at Mount Mansfield (Stowe), Vermont, during the birth of Burton Snowboards.
