Recruited to manage and enhance the performance of a EMEA professional services group deploying enterprise LIMS projects across a variety of markets including pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, molecular diagnostics and materials science.Within the European division Mark was also responsible for the oversight and governance of a portfolio of enterprise LIMS projects across the EMEA region. Project portfolio management required prioritising projects, resource and escalation management as well as personnel management, financial forecasting, budget modelling and revenue reporting.In addition to the managerial role Mark worked as a customer facing project manager for projects in a diverse set of vertical markets such as food manufacture, consumer goods and clinical research. Responsible for developing IT and Bioinformatics budget, infrastructure and strategy for a prestigious bio-tech company.As part of the senior management group, Mark's remit was to collaborate at all levels of the company, to identify and deliver key enterprise systems, bespoke software and custom bioinformatics analysis. Key parts of the strategy, delivered on or below budget, were an electronic notebook (ELN), flexible data analysis pipeline (IDBS) and robust VM based IT architecture.In addition to this work Mark was responsible creating custom bioinformatics tools to analyse population variants (1000 Genomes) in immune system loci and other data analysis including sequence assembly, comparative genomics and gene target profiling. This work provided Kymab with an excellent, stable and flexible infrastructure supporting the company during a rapid growth and development phase. Joined the well established Medical Genetics Laboratories at Baylor College of Medicine, dedicated to providing the medical genetics community with high quality comprehensive genetic testing services. Recruited to provide increased informatics resources for the highest funded Human Genetics department in the USA. Consulting widely within both the department and affiliated institutions Mark was able to form working relationships with a diverse range of researchers.During this time Mark worked with a number of research groups involved in rare-genetic disorder research, advised clinical staff in planning the Centre for Childhood Obesity and constructing data-schemas for the Adolescent Bariatric Surgery Group (Texas Children’s Hospital). Lexicon was a successful post-IPO bio-pharmaceutical company looking to exploit the power of high-throughput mouse knock-out technology in the development of novel therapeutics.Headhunted for his knowledge of mouse phenotyping, Mark arrived at key acceleration point. This was manifested in both the breadth of tests and the level of knock-out throughput required by the company’s and partner therapeutic programs.
