Envision Physician Services/EmCare North Division helps shape tomorrow's healthcare delivery today by specializing in Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, and Anesthesia Medicine practice support. As COO, I led a team of nearly 200 practice support professionals and 1000 full-time affiliated clinicians to support hospitals and practices across New England, the MidAtlantic, Midwest states and beyond. In the role, I focused on hospital and provider contracting, organic growth and M&A opportunities, payer relationships, productivity and staffing models, and more. Recruiting the best clinicians and support professionals, aligning with a clinical facility's strategic goals, and ensuring a quality of life have become paramount in a well-structured integrated care delivery system. As an executive focused on human capital management, finance, marketing, business development and operations, we shaped a culture to focus on quality metrics while balancing and achieving strong financial results.

In this role I provided focused P&L oversight and operational management of emergency department, inpatient physician, and mid-level provider services spanning hospitals in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Mid-West markets. Given my experience as a former business development director, I partnered with our sales executives to recruit new opportunities in Philadelphia and, for the first time, enter the Wisconsin market. I also expanded the use of medical scribes as a means to improve physician and patient satisfaction by allowing physicians to spend more time with more patients instead of spending more time interacting with various electronic medical record systems.

Situated at the intersection of business and politics, Georgetown University McDonough School of Business presented the forum for me to connect the business of health care with the uncertainty of healthcare reform -- right from our nation's capital. From a Deloitte Consulting sponsored health insurance exchange white paper to an orphan drug funding model with Booz Allen Hamilton, I garnered methodologies for understanding strategic and financial challenges implicated healthcare firms at all levels. While a graduate administrative intern at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, I partnered to develop a cost containment process in the labor and delivery department. The capstone experience, a partnership with 3M Vietnam, allowed me to understand the difficulties of recruiting top-talent while learning from a culture different from my own.

Due to a monthly actual delivery variance of 2% to 12% (or 20 to 120 deliveries) from total projected, Prentice Women’s Hospital (PWH) prepared resources for deliveries that did not occur. PWH required a physician delivery projection system to minimize the monthly variance to nearly 0% so that nurse staffing levels and supply costs could appropriately match system demand. My final deliverable is expected to save approximately $260,000 annually in overstaffing and materials costs.

AMR is the nation's largest provider of medical transportation. Growth and customer retention through client satisfaction are paramount to the success of AMR. Through this position, the business development and operations departments partnered with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and municipalities to develop ambulance and non-medical transportation networks. Such relationships ensured patients were safely moved, either emergently or non-emergently, throughout many clinical and home settings.
