Director, Global Program ExecutionGeneral Motors Nov 2015 - Mar 2016Greater Detroit AreaSelected to lead a team of 35 Program Managers to execute connected vehicle programs worldwide for the Global Connected Customer Experience at General Motors. -
Director, Technical Program ExecutionGlobal Connected Consumer, General Motors Nov 2012 - Nov 2015Greater Detroit AreaI was selected to lead a newly created organization responsible for program managing technical solutions across the ecosystem for Global Connected Customer Experience/OnStar. I established and refined the technical processes from requirements gathering and system design to validation. Our team put into practice these processes that led to new industry firsts for General Motors. I led the end to end technical solution launch of OnStar 4G LTE. This initiative was an industry first and significant for GM. This major initiative had significant risk and met the launch milestone, a challenge from our CEO. This initiative transitioned from a 16 year relationship with Verizon requiring the design, development and integration with AT&T as the new carrier. Applying all the lessons learned and integrating a new carrier who had not worked with an automotive OEM to this scale was a major undertaking. Additionally there was significant change in the hardware moving from a 2G device to a 4G LTE device. We also took on the largest increase in service expansion since the launch of OnStar with the offering of Wifi data sales and 5 years of connected base services. The 2014 launch marked a significant milestone for General Motors’ vehicle connectivity. -
Director, Application Ecosystem And DevelopmentGeneral Motors Apr 2015 - Sep 2015Greater Detroit AreaI lead the App development for both the in-vehicle apps as well as the mobile apps for iOS and Android. Led the development and introduction of the myOpel and MyVauxhall apps in conjunction with the launch of OnStar in Europe. -
Director, Systems OperationsGeneral Motors Oct 2007 - Nov 2012Greater Detroit AreaI was promoted to the executive level to lead the Systems Operations organization. The telematics ecosystem provides unique challenges in ensuring transactional performances are achieved and maintained. I led this organization through a maturity phase increasing performance and stability resulting in an increase in customer experience and satisfaction. There was also intense focus on containing costs and looking for efficiencies in process and design changes against the $100M budget.I achieved this through in depth investigation of technical processes and engagement with key stakeholders such as OnStar IT and Verizon Wireless. Root cause investigations led to failure mode resolutions and increased process performance. Responsive alerts and stakeholder integration led to enhanced response time reducing issue impact. I led the development of alerts into the Verizon Wireless Network Operations Center, the first of its kind. Our team drove a 10 to 15 percentage point improvement in key service metrics. These levels are near today’s current levels demonstrating that what was attainable was achieved. Our team also led a critical transition for OnStar in 2008 with the decommissioning of analog cellular. Over 1.2M active devices were either transitioned to digital hardware upgrade or part of an outbound campaign to terminate services. I owned the operational transactions for both alternatives. Our team also focused on identifying inefficiencies and waste. During his tenure the wireless cost per interaction between the vehicle and the back office was reduced by a factor of 5 allowing the business to maintain profitability levels during a period of significant increase in interactions. -
Senior Manager, Enterprise QualityGeneral Motors Onstar Oct 2006 - Oct 2007Greater Detroit AreaI led enterprise quality function which served as a transitional role for my subsequent assignment. I led the identification and resolution of customer reported technical issues. Our team focused on root cause and resolution of issues to eliminate future occurrence. The results were a significant reduction in customer calls reporting technical issues. -
Manager, Engineering ProgramsGeneral Motors Mar 2003 - Oct 2006Greater Detroit AreaAfter a brief consulting engagement with Nokia, I was rejoined GM. My initial focus was supporting the launch of the digital modem technology. This changed the communication transport between the back office and in-vehicle device using a technology developed by Airbiquity. This initiative was successfully launched in late 2003 and allowed GM to transition to digital cellular technology in their network access devices. I then led the launch of a second source hardware supplier (LG Electronics) that resulted in an annual savings to GM of $90M. This initiative brought significant challenges in working with a supplier that had no automotive experience; no telematics experience: and no prior experience GM. It required significant leadership and deep engagement with the supplier our team provided in order to successfully launch the LG hardware. From this strong foundation LG established, they continue today as GM’s sole telematics hardware provider. -
Director, Program ManagementWingcast, Llc Feb 2001 - Jun 2002Greater San Diego AreaWingcast was a joint venture between Ford Motor Company and Qualcomm. It was based in San Diego with a goal to leverage the scale of Ford Motor Company and the technology of Qualcomm. The focus was on an imbedded solution factory installed solution. There was also an agreement with Nissan to introduce this service on their vehicles. Our team led the execution of the end to end technical solution. It involved standing up solutions in the back office and advisor application solution that interfaced to wireless network and provided connectivity to in-vehicle hardware provided by Denso. The team was on track and within two months of launch when Ford made the decision to pull out of the venture and dissolve the company.

Engineering ManagerGeneral Motors Aug 1996 - Jan 2000Greater Detroit AreaAlthough Ford was first, General Motors truly took the lead in defining the telematics industry. Their focus was driven from their Vice Chairman that mandated all vehicles be equipped with telematics devices. They were truly ahead of their time with connected vehicles that has resulted in more than 20 million vehicles with the ability to be connected today making them early pioneers in the IoT space.I joined GM just prior to the launch of OnStar and assumed the Back Office technical solution for the delivery of services. I worked closely with the supplier (EDS) to ensure robust solutions were in place to meet the established service level agreement. I accomplished this by driving greater discipline in processes and issue resolution. I also worked closely with the hardware manager to incorporate additional features in the early life of the product. I later assumed responsibility for in-vehicle hardware launching next generation features. I later transitioned to owning the technical execution of the integration of XM Satellite Radio into GM vehicles which launched in 2001. -
Senior Systems EngineerFord Motor Company 1992 - 1996Greater Detroit AreaI led the technical solution delivery of the industry’s first telematics services on the Lincoln Continental marketed as “Lincoln RESCU”. From inception to validation and delivery, the initiative involved Motorola as the in-vehicle hardware supplier and Westinghouse as the back office call center. I directed the in-vehicle module and back office development; validation and field testing; plant testing and marketing/dealer support. Despite many skeptics, we forged ahead with a small team that delivered on it’s commitments. -

This served to form an outstanding foundation across the entire lifecycle of product development. My initial contribution was in digital and analog hardware design as well as embedded software development.
