I act for taxpayers in sensitive and substantial tax disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency and other government bodies. I have extensive experience with each aspect of the tax controversy process, including the analysis of tax and litigation risks, audit management, negotiation with tax authorities, administrative appeals, and civil litigation in federal and provincial courts. While I work hard to resolve tax disputes as early and efficiently as possible, I have also successfully represented clients at every level of court in Canada (where formal litigation was needed to achieve my clients' respective goals).In addition, I actively contribute to several professional organizations and legal publications. I have chaired each of the Tax Court Bench and Bar Committee and the Executive of the Ontario Bar Association's Tax Section. I am a contributing editor of the Tax Litigation Journal. I have completed graduate studies in tax law and I am an active participant in several pro bono and public interest initiatives. Before joining Blakes, I was a tax controversy partner at a prominent international law firm, a tax litigator with the federal government, and a judicial clerk at the Federal Court of Appeal.
