Profile bio

About Markus Uhlirsch

I am a materials scientist who is interested and experienced in the fields of metallic and mineral powder materials, metal additive manufacturing processes, hydrogen embrittlement, metal cutting and corrosion studies. My current role at SaltX involves characterizing materials in terms of particle size distribution, measurements of flowability and packing properties, chemical analsis (FTIR, C/S-measurements), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) as well as calcination and standard reactivity testing (quicklime). I plan testing, perform analysis and report as well as present the results. My work takes place both in laboratory and industrial environments. Further tasks include project management and literature studies. I have designed, built and operated several test rigs to simulate process steps at a smaller scale. My previous job at Swerim AB (previously Swerea KIMAB) included laboratory work as well as reporting and project management of international projects in the fields of hydrogen embrittlement, wet corrosion, and high-temperature corrosion. Literature studies, writing guidelines and writing applications for government funding are examples of other tasks that the position involved. I have expertise in working on process parameter development for alloys in electron beam powder bed fusion (PBF-EB). Moreover, I have extensive experience in characterizing metal powders for additive manufacturing regarding their flowability, packing properties, particle size distribution, etc. In previous career steps I contributed to AM projects in various stages of maturity which gave me basic practical experience in laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF-LB) and 3D-screen printing of metals. In addition, I have completed a 3-year vocational training as a metal cutting mechanic which taught me various machining processes such as turning and milling on both conventional and CNC-machines.I enjoy contributing to the success of projects with a high level of commitment, reliability and a strong willingness to learn. I am a creative engineer passionate about solving problems and finding new approaches. Working abroad for the past years has been improving both my intercultural competence and my language skills.

Listed skills include Additive Manufacturing, Powder Characterization, Powder Metallurgy, Materials Science, and 9 others.
