At Wacom, I lead the development and integration of innovative digital ink technologies, merging AI with intuitive handwriting interfaces to create seamless, smart, and context-aware digital experiences. Working with research partners, I defined and developed Wacom’s Semantic Ink Technology, a cloud-based service that leverages knowledge graphs and vector-based semantic search to link handwritten notes to a broader, interconnected network of contextual information. This technology makes digital notes more interactive and insightful by instantly connecting users to related knowledge without manual searching, enhancing productivity and learning potential.One of my key achievements has been bringing this technology to market, combining Semantic Ink with the Universal Ink Model to deliver a natural and powerful digital handwriting experience. As Product Manager for Wacom’s WILL (Wacom Ink Layer Language) technology, I led the development and deployment of technology for digital ink. A notable achievement in this role was the invention of the Universal Ink Model —a platform-agnostic data model that structures and represents digital ink with interoperability across applications. The Universal Ink Model enables diverse uses, from handwriting recognition to cross-platform sensor data analysis, enhancing both ink’s semantic depth and its usability across devices and applications.In addition, I contributed to Wacom’s developer relations program, building an ecosystem that supports developers in integrating and advancing digital ink technologies. By fostering partnerships and creating engagement opportunities, I ensured that Wacom’s ink technologies are accessible, adaptable, and tailored to the needs of a global developer community.

Markus Weber, in his role as Head of R&D with digipen technologies GmbH, co-developed the innovative “digisign” technology, which earned the CeBIT Innovation Award in 2015. This technology is a secure, forgery-resistant digital signature technology that uses biometrics to verify the authenticity of handwritten signatures on digital platforms. Working alongside the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Weber helped create a system that not only captures a user’s handwriting but also the subtle, forensic characteristics of their signature. These unique features enable digisign to securely authenticate signatures in both paper and digital formats, making it suitable for high-security applications in finance industry. This recognition highlighted the potential of digisign in transforming digital security standards, especially by offering a reliable tool for identity verification in the digital age.
