Engineering is a tricky business nowadays. Just by using the latest technology to exploit the natural resources or ease the workload of a specific task isn’t going to cut it. Moral questions and understanding the consequences of your actions are vital part of every engineers’ job today. This is putting engineers in a positions where they need to ask themselves “What it means to be an engineer?”As an engineer, I want to understand the society in which we live in. I believe that by combining the knowledge of different technologies, our history and society structures, you can give the people what they truly need by doing it environmentally friendly and morally right at the same time. Science and engineering have always had a massive influence on the development of societies and now this role is more important than ever.In my studies I have combined the two worlds of engineering: Mechanical engineering, the very core of engineering, and the Information and communication engineering, the future of the modern world. These two have given me not only the knowledge of different technologies but also learning how to make the world a better place.However, not everything is about technology. That’s why even the best engineer need to have a hobby. The basic knowledge of SOAP and HTTP protocols was essential as well as understanding REST architecture, FHIR framework and SSL/TLS protocol. In addition, I worked in a project for a Finnish healthcare institute as an integration consultant and participated Finnish FHIR core profiles -project in which I was one of the main profilers. The profiling was done by using FHIR Shorthand and SUSHI compiler. The Objectives of these projects were developing new features on Omaolo's scheduling integration, deploying existing integration features for customers, forming national interface specification for self-care/wellness applications to notify and send patient data to EHR systems based on FHIR capabilities and specifying integration solutions between Omaolo and telehealth platforms.Working in these project required a lot of co-operation with vast range of stakeholders and partners. Omaolo users, customers, developers, managers, executives, HL7 Finland, The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Kela and also Firely contacts. Understanding customers care processes, the concept of telehealth and technical capabilities of EHR systems were in major role to succeed in this assignment. -

I was also enhancing integrations during software updates and technical problems. Serving customer's need were always the top priority to enable smooth and effective use of the product. When I joined the company, deployments were lacking behind mostly because of integrations but I was able to improve the situation so much that in the end only a few of the 40 monthly deployments were late because of the integrations.In addition, I had a major role when creating specifications and developing a new integration to a huge and important customer since it was based on an integration standard HL7 FHIR. The project had a very tight schedule when I joined but with my expertise we were able to reach our due dates.I also had a major role in developing working methods in our team but also between teams and organisations. During organisational change I was responsible for sharing knowledge about integrations to new development teams, train co-workers for new tasks and ensure that maintaining and enhancing integrations would run smoothly through the transition phase and after that. My co-workers and a management were very pleased of how well everything went. -
