Whilst encompassing general infrastructure support, this role also included platforms specialisation, making me directly responsible for all server hardware, builds, OS deployment, initial configuration, and associated infrastructure. This primarily covers HP server hardware, all Microsoft Operating Systems to date, as well as RedHat Linux, and VMware.

This was a broad ranged position, covering all aspects of maintaining existing Windows and Linux infrastructure, as well as design and implementation of infrastructure projects, including hardware refreshes, operating system upgrades/rollouts, and integration of acquired businesses into the Insight organisation.

This was initially a desktop position supporting PC, printer, network and telecoms for 350 internal staff. Rapidly taking on more responsibility, I was working closely with the systems administrators, leading several infrastructure projects.

The main area of this work involved giving technical help over the telephone, to customers who were building, configuring, or upgrading PC’s, servers, and networks, to diagnose any faults, and resolve their problems.
