Sr. Database AdministratorNuance Communications Jan 2014 - Mar 2015Burlington, Ma, Us- Validated the new clusters that were brought online. Generated 60+ item list of best practices that were broken during current cluster setups. Was a key part in developing SQL Server deployment standards for physical SQL Servers, SQL Failover Clusters and virtualized SQL Servers.- Led and completed disaster recovery (DR) to a remote data center by setting up SQL clusters, load testing SAN (Hitachi HDS HUS-VM fiber channel), log shipping (we could not use AlwaysOn as servers were SQL2008), built and tested disaster recovery (DR) procedure.- Initiated and ran to completion SQL Server Enterprise Monitoring Project. Developed Proof of Concept going through deep evaluation of 3rd party SQL monitoring software, which uncovered a lot of 3rd party tool shortcomings. As part of this, we were able to get a price for all licenses reduced from $350K+ down to $140K and $45K worth of extra software licenses included. Most of the price reduction was because of the list of shortcomings and bugs that I uncovered in the current monitoring product.- Implemented remediation items on SQL Servers that were not up to the standard. Deployed custom monitors. As part of the project, uncovered a many bad instance / DB settings, DBs full backups missing, servers with no maintenance plans, and slew of other issues.- Led and completed disaster recovery (DR) to a remote data center by setting up SQL clusters, load testing SAN (Hitachi HDS HUS-VM fiber channel), log shipping (we could not use AlwaysOn as servers were SQL2008), built and tested disaster recovery (DR) procedure.- Countless DBA team process optimizations. Trained DBA team on PowerShell and how to manage 300+ SQL Servers using PowerShell. Recommended a comprehensive DBA training plan. Helped to develop deployment standards for SQL servers, SQL clusters and virtualized SQL Servers. -
