Joined Kennametal in 2007 to lead integration of $85M acquired company (Extrude Hone) into Kennametal. Led 80 person global engineering, marketing and product management functions.• Integrated local (N. American, German, Japanese) engineering and marketing departments into a global team that reduced product lines from 33 to 11 while growing capital equipment sales.• Initiated and completed three clean sheet, next generation development projects that gave Extrude Hone a modern, highly competitive product base for the next five to ten years.• Led Japanese business unit through 40% market decline while maintaining profitability and establishing and mentoring their future leadership team.

In October of 2000 founded a new company, Turnkey Marketing that provides business development, marketing and product development services to advanced manufacturing companies. First year revenues were over $600,000, second year over $1,000,000.• Took a leadership role in creating the Partnership for Lean Innovation, a program that improves the new product development process. Awarded a $1.9M grant from Ohio’s Third Frontier Technology Fund. Results delivered a positive economic impact of over $30M.• Developed detailed strategic sales & marketing plans for a number of advanced manufacturing clients, despite operating in a declining market environment. Incremental and retained revenues over $100M.

Us

In 1997 took on worldwide responsibility for new product development and marketing. Staff of 18 people and a development and marketing budget of $14M.• Designed a world-class new product development process (Wolfpack) that increased company sales $80M per year. Recognized as the nation’s “Outstanding Corporate Innovator” by PDMA in 1998.• Mentored six development teams that launched six new products, doubling Cincinnati Machine’s new product sales. Project budgets were a combined $10M with annualized new product revenue reaching $100M and product lifetime sales of over $1B. Team leaders became key managers in the company.

In 1995 accepted this P&L position as General Manager of a $70M, 140 person business unit that manufactured machining centers and flexible cells for the automotive and aerospace industries.• Formed a new global business unit by consolidating three separate product lines. Expanded commercial component sourcing while focusing on product reliability to create a profitable business unit. Despite inheriting a very unreliable product, we were able to reduce warranty costs by 50%, retain key customers, enhance the product lines and achieve profitability in our first year.

In 1989 transferred from the Electronic Systems division to the Machine Tool division to manage the development of new products and international strategic alliances.• Led a cross-functional team that developed a next generation machining center, targeting German and Japanese competition. Product was brought to market in 20 months, within budget and increased market share from 15% to 40%. • Researched the market worldwide, studied emerging technologies, wrote the business plan and led the development team for a new factory automation product line. The new technologies applied created a strong competitive advantage. 110 systems, valued at $250M, were sold in the first 10 years.
