About Mark Way

I have 20 years of experience operating in the sustainability field with a strong focus on climate change risk and resilience. My career has taken me to senior and executive levels in the insurance and non-profits sectors. I have taken leadership roles in development of innovative financial solutions for the conservation of nature as well as fundraising. I am an experienced program manager in the field of coastal nature-based solutions supporting climate adaptation and mitigation. In the corporate sector I have led teams in major insurance and reinsurance companies focusing on all aspects of sustainability from product and service development, stakeholder engagement, ESG reputation risk management, sustainability reporting, communications to executive level reporting and speech writing. All of these roles have had involved the positioning of organizations in the climate change topic area, building both brand and reputation. I have a track record in the identification and opportunities as well as their management and implementation. I am well versed in effectively operating across complex organizations leading and, or, supporting regional or county level programs and projects. I have extensive experience in multi-sector stakeholder engagement contributing to thought leadership and differentiating the organization I represent on topics including sustainability, climate risk and resilience. Some of the work I am most closely associated with includes: - Building the case for insurance as a mechanism to protect critical natural infrastructure including placing the worlds first insurance policy to protect a marine ecosystem - the Mesoamerican coral reef off the coast of Quintana Roo, Mexico. This scalable solution has been successfully replicated in both the Caribbean and Pacific regions. - The foundation of NYC Climate Week - The foundation of RE100, a global corporate renewable energy initiative which now has over 400 members - Foundational work in the area of sustainability reputation risk management and the implementation of appropriate frameworks - The Bloomberg Administrations post-Hurricane Sandy report "A Stronger, More Resilient New York" - Developing the relationship with a non-profit organization that led to a major project supporting food security for farmers in Ethiopia and then scaled to other African countries.
