    Working within the Project Transform team, my responsibilities include ensuring that infrastructure services are fully operational and available to support programme implementation plans and future service developments. This will require the development and implementation of a student management system infrastructure plan to support the business objectives. I am also responsible for the management of third party contracts, in particular a cloud hosting contract hosting the main student management system and monitoring the operation of student management system interfaces to/from development, test, live, DR and training environments.Project Transform is an innovative, global programme that will radically change the way the University operates and interacts with students. It is the key initiative underpinning the University’s Strategy 2020. By redesigning the current student administration processes and implementing a new, strategic enterprise wide student management system based on Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and CRM the University will improve every aspect of the way it supports students from their first contact, through their time of study, to graduation and beyond.Project Transform is currently the biggest transformational project of its kind in the Higher Education sector with an ultimate team of over 100 members. It began its journey in November 2013 adopting a ‘People, Process, Technology’ approach to transforming the University’s culture, improve its proficiency, evolve its structure and build its capabilities.

These services are critical to the timely and effective operation of the Express Logistics business.• Providing technical support, service delivery, and systems management and maintenance of: 2 mainframes, 280 ESX servers, 2,100 Linux/Unix and 2,600 Windows instances, and over 800TB of SAN storage.• I manage a department of 25 members of staff and a budget of €20M.Achievements:• Built a cohesive and effective Compute Services function from a disparate set of sub-teams after a major reorganisation and instilled a culture of continuous improvement.• Established policies and processes within the Mainframe, Storage and Linux teams covering maintenance of the Operating System, firmware and software components.• Investigated and implemented the use of Cloud services within the department.• Drove significant improvements in Disaster Recovery (DR) processes and procedures. This lead to a 20% improvement in system recovery success rate during DR tests.• Established a review process for the SAN storage landscape, covering life cycle and capacity. This identified significant capacity issues and potential cost savings. After implementing the remedial actions, the capacity issues were addressed and €300K per annum savings were realised.

This reduced server footprint by 85% and saved €1M per annum in operational and licence costs.• Establish the VMware infrastructure, competencies and ITIL service management processes required to deliver virtualised services to the worldwide population of TNT users. This included the design and build of regional VMware based Computer Centres.• Build key vendor relationships with VMware and Red Hat, including negotiating an enterprise licence agreement with VMware.
