As a Communications Specialist for the Madison Metropolitan School District, I supported internal and external communications functions in MMSD using online, print, social and other media, and served as communications liaison to 25 schools.

As Manager of the WNY Gulf Coast Recovery Program, my role was to recruit, enroll, and manage individuals from across the country to serve with disaster relief organizations along the Mississippi Gulf Coast as AmeriCorps volunteers. These members served terms varying in length from 10 weeks to one year to assist communities along the Gulf Coast with rebuilding and reviving from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Our partners included community-based, disaster relief organizations serving the residents of Hancock and Harrison Counties.

During my AmeriCorps term as Volunteer Coordinator for Hands On Gulf Coast (HOGC), I coordinated more than 1,500 volunteers participating in Hurricane Katrina disaster recovery in Biloxi, Mississippi. Areas of focus included youth development, construction, green space revitalization, and beautification. As the main contact for any volunteer interested in serving with our organization, I coordinated the volunteer experience for individuals, corporate groups, high school service trips, as well as more than 500 college students who participated in Alternative Spring Break at HOGC during the spring of 2008.
