About Marleen Byron
I have been involved in the safari industry since 2006, living and working in Botswana for eight years. After completing my degree in Zoology at the University of Pretoria, I spent time guiding at the Kapama Private Game Reserve before moving to Botswana. I started working for Okavango Wilderness Safaris as a camp manager and spent three and a half year working in the bush, first at Xigera Camp and then Mombo Camp. I progressed from Camp Manager to Concession administrator in both concessions and was intimately involved in managing very large budgets. During this time, I completed an Honours and Masters Degree in Environmental Sciences, and wrote up my thesis on the Amphibian diversity and breeding behaviour within the Okavango Delta. Since my departure from Wilderness Safaris, Marleen has worked in numerous facets of the tourism and safari industry including training, system implementation, administration, sales and reservations, marketing and operations. I am currently a director of Beagle Expeditions, an exciting up and coming safari brand, and a partner in the Destination Management Company (Tour Operator) Safari Essence.I have a real obsession for high quality travel products, and pride myself in providing travel expertise backed by significant experience and a passion for the travel and safari experience.I adore the place I live and work, as well as those that I have visited, and wish to share these spectacular destinations with as many people as I can!In addition, I feel very strongly about using tourism to make a real difference to the greater cause of conservation, and effectively redistributing the wealth created to those living within and adjacent to wildlife areas in order to help preserve it.

We are an inbound tour operator, are based in Maun (Botswana), selling tailor made tours and safaris throughout Africa. We currently specialise in Botswana (our main focus), Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia but we aim to widen our scope to include African countries further afield in the near future (working with like-minded specialists in these destinations further afield). Our focus is on providing travel expertise that is exceptional and highly personal in nature. Our company is small and intimate, and we aim to keep it this way, hand picking consultants that live in the destinations we sell and have several years’ experience in the industry. The result is unique, tailor made tours, safaris and holiday travel experiences moulded to the individual needs of our guests. This philosophy follows through to our suppliers, so that where possible we suggest independent products and owner run businesses. The personal nature of our business means that we do not have a limiting factor to the types of trips we arrange, it depends entirely on what our guests desire, and thus our client base is large and varied, including: families, luxury travellers, disabled and senior travellers, honeymooners, adventure junkies, eco-conscious travellers, budget travellers etc. Our business is borne from our passion and dedication to the countries in which we live and the magical places on offer on the African continent. Basically, we want to share our love for our industry and our destinations with those who wish to experience Africa. All our consultants arrived at the places in which we now live resulting from a love and passion for the environment, natural places, wildlife, adventure, wide open spaces and the lifestyles living in these places affords ourselves and our families. We live it; We love it! It is our core, our essence, and something we wish all others to experience, that connection with the natural that touches every visitor.
