About Marley Jarvis, Phd

🌊 Hello! I'm Marley. I am a PhD-trained marine scientist turned award-winning science communicator and strategist. My career is driven by a passion for connecting people with science that matters to them to effect meaningful change in communities and the environment. You'll tend to find me diving into wildly diverse projects at the intersection of people, art, equity, and science, with a knack for humanizing technical subjects and making science actionable. I also regularly serve as a strategic science communication adviser, helping scientists, engineers, and other STEMM professionals to be well-prepared to engage with diverse audiences, including funders, about their work. I travel throughout the country to give talks, keynotes, and trainings.I currently serve as a Funding Research and Strategy Lead for Climate Finance Solutions, focusing on non-dilutive funding for promising new climate tech. I am also a board member of the Trinidad Coastal Land Trust. Previously, I was a Senior Outreach and Education Specialist at the Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences (I-LABS) at the University of Washington, where I provided research updates to government agencies, policymakers, educators, and other diverse audiences. Before that, I specialized in public engagement with science through the national Portal to the Public initiative at Pacific Science Center in Seattle. Across my career, I support people in using research to make change they want to see in the world and telling impactful stories about science and people.I am also an artist and musician, and enjoy spending as much time as possible with my family at the beautiful beaches of the California redwood coast I call home.👋 Learn more and get in touch at marleyjarvis.comSpecialties: Science Communication | Research Synthesis | Multimedia Storytelling | Public Speaking | Strategic Partnerships | Program Development | Partnership Development | Coaching | Science Communication Training | Media | Strategic Planning | Grant Writing | Grant Strategy | Marine Science | Marine Biology | Plankton | Oceanography | Research | Ecology | Scientific and Technical Writing | Communicating Technical Information for Broad Audiences | Editing | Creative and Art Direction | Science Art | Animation | Adobe Creative Suite | Video Production | Visual Design | Digital Illustration | Visual Storytelling | Communication Arts | Non-Profits | Museums | Government Agencies | Interdisciplinary Collaborations | University Teaching | Course Development | Adult Learning Methodologies | Informal Science Education
