Water Use Efficiency BranchProject: Drought Resiliency for Disadvantaged Communities I was assigned two under resourced, rural California counties: Lake County and Tulare County. I helped build capacity for their local governments and small water suppliers, primarily by providing guidance on how to implement the recommendations of Senate Bill 552 and the suggestion to develop Water Shortage Contingency Plans. I worked closely with local government staff to host meetings for regional stakeholders, leading workshops to demonstrate how to effectively use the Department of Water Resources' online Drought Risk Assessment Tool in coordinated conservation efforts. I assisted with community outreach strategies such as creating short films and securing traditional media to facilitate community engagement in planning processes. I was responsible for producing multiple transition reports containing recommendations for effective drought planning in disadvantaged communities, not only to be used as future guidance for the counties in which I worked, but also for the Department of Water Resources when extrapolating lessons learned in other counties across the state.

I prepared documents in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. I aided in advising clients on environmental regulations and facilitated the necessary permitting through various regulatory agencies including: the Bay Conservation and Development Commission, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Regional Water Quality Control Board, and the Army Corps of Engineers. I performed air quality analyses using California Emissions Model (CalEEMod) and helped draft technical analyses of project impacts in the "Greenhouse Gas" and "Air Quality" chapters of CEQA documents. Other duties I performed included assisting with administrative tasks such as preparing invoices, reports, memos, and presentations. I coordinated with SLLC faculty, staff, students, and key stakeholders to conduct site analysis, prepare sitemaps, host workshops, and conduct outreach on campus to create a conceptual vision plan for the undeveloped site of interest. I collaborated with a multi-disciplinary team of students to draft a document containing a visual plan, the history, explanation of the cultural significance, and other research of the site to be submitted to Campus Planning for integration in the UC Davis Long Range Development Plan.

As a staff writer for the Features desk, I performed extensive research on topics varying from environmental justice, student fee expenditures, professor profiles, cultural event reviews, and more. Story-writing involved attending campus events, interviewing as well as maintaining relationships with individuals and campus organizations. I worked independently to write, edit, and produce more than 100 articles during my time at the Cal Aggie.
