Research InvestigatorUniversity Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill Jan 2007 - Oct 2012Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United StatesAs the Program Developer and Intervention Director for the IES-funded Targeted Reading Intervention (TRI; now Targeted Reading Instruction), I led the development and implementation of a professional development model designed to equip K-2 classroom teachers in low-income, rural schools with research-based strategies to accelerate the reading development of struggling students.This early reading intervention has been proven effective in multiple top-tier research journals and is featured on the What Works Clearinghouse by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). Additionally, the TRI boasts one of the highest effect sizes for reading achievement on Evidence for ESSA.By using the TRI model, K-2 teachers were empowered with a handful of tools and a simple lesson plan that could be quickly implemented within their own classrooms, transforming both the teachers’ ability to differentiate instruction and the students’ reading success in a short period of time. -
